Kavita had been married to Rajesh for about 19 years. Everyday a living hell for her and her son. Rajesh an alcoholic was married to Kavita with the hope that he may improve and learn to be responsible post marriage. (A typical Indian mentality that if your son has wavered from the right path of life only a marriage can bring him back to it.) Hence Kavita became the guinea pig for this mission.
The innocent soul was not told about Rajesh's drinking problem and was left to the mercy of God and her luck which had all run out the day she married Rajesh.
Rajesh, the son an army officer was the owner of a petrol bunk in the city and had flourishing business. However, the greed to have more and the hunger for money grew within him like a cancerous tumor.
Rajesh would often drink and physically abuse Kavita. He would brutally assault her leaving her in agony and fear. The 'good Hindu wife' succumbed to her husbands' tyranny without speaking out a word to anyone else in the family.
She had her son to protect and no family to go back to. She waited each day for her son to grow up and take her away from her 'alcoholic and sex maniac husband'. He was her only hope of escape and survival.
19 years of tolerance and patience.19 years of torture. 19 years of brutal physical and sexual assault, but not any more. She had reached her swell.
It was their 20th wedding anniversary. Kavita waited patiently for Rajesh to return home. A bottle of wine and a glass were set on the dinner table that was lit dimly by the candle on the side stand.
Rajesh came home at 9 pm. She offered him a drink and then another till he was knocked off his senses. She went to her room and sat by the bedpost. Crying ... crying for the first time with joy. She felt a bittersweet pain in her chest and her shackles snapped open........ she smiled.
