An area- forgotten

I was three years old when my family moved to Bangalore. My father had just got a new job in one of the local banks. I was very excited when we landed here.
We bought a small apartment near this ancient looking place in the city. Dad and I walked every Sunday to buy vegetables. I would love walking on those empty streets, staring at the street hawkers, people clad in white gowns that extended below their knees and women dressed in saris walking around.
The place had an 'old persons' touch to it. All the buildings around were 'antique'. It had a certain calm about it.
I remembered I asked my dad this question once and he told me that this was probably the only area in Bangalore where people of all religion lived together in harmony.
A fact , that is a bit hard to believe in the modern-era , when riots break at the drop of a hat. This area that was  once known for its 'peace and harmony', is now known as the hub for all the religious outbreaks and disruption.
I remember the newspaper headlines a couple of days back read, 'BMTC buses torched; several killed in Shivajinagar'.
The evil in man sometimes even kills the serenity of the place he resides in.
